The Mobile Processor

If we had a nickel for every time we have heard someone say, “You should get a grant for that,” we could all be retired right now. We don’t have those nickels, which is why we are still hard at work, but we did bring in a grant. This is the story of our Clean Technology Demonstration Project, which is a mobile biodiesel processor that we intend to haul across North Carolina to help spread the news of biodiesel—America’s next renewable fuel.

This grant was awarded to the Biofuels Program at Central Carolina Community College by our State Energy Office, which is part of the North Carolina Department of Administration. It received funds from the federal Department of Energy. The State Energy Office is committed to the development and deployment of renewable energy sources across North Carolina.

Working with Our Friend Grant has been a long and wondrous journey, which has been full of mystery and surprise. We’ve included our grant narratives, which we submit on a monthly basis to document our journey. If you are interested in seeing the Mobile Biodiesel Processor in you town, use this site to book an appointment. On this site we will tell our story. Thanks for coming, and enjoy.

From the RFP

"The Clean Technology Demonstrations program offers cost-shared grants to initiate the implementation of renewable and sustainable energy generation projects. These showcase projects will demonstrate the production of “clean” electrical or thermal power or “ clean” fuels (as opposed to conventional fossil fuel utilization), using technologies and designs that can be easily replicated at other locations across the state. The ultimate goal of the program will be to promote the development of renewable energy systems, in an effort to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, improve the quality of our air, land, and water, and encourage sustainable energy production."

"These grants should be used to help leverage public and private investments in a project, enabling further demonstration and replication of efforts to continue beyond the period of State Energy office funding. The program strongly encourages cooperative efforts between universities, research centers, community members, businesses, and government entities."

Key elements of clean power generation:
