Community Fuel Making

For many years we have made biodiesel cooperatively, and right now that facet of our project is down. What was once fuel making in the back yard became Tuesday Night Fuel Making, and a whole bunch of people have passed through and made biodiesel with us.
We used to charge people for the reactants, which at the time was methanol, catalyst and electricity, some those who came to brew with us got to go home on at-cost fuel. We found that a lot of people liked our batch worksheet, so we decided to share it with the world. Help yourself, and send people our way if they have questions.
When we “became one,” Tuesday night fuel making was a casualty. Those who participated are continuing the dialog and we are looking at ways of starting “Sunday Workdays” again. Some want to start brewing on Clean Tech. Others say that’s a horrible idea.
Right now we are batting ideas around. Lots of people have said they want to re-start community fuel making. Some say they just enjoyed the comraderie–and it wasn’t about the fuel. Others say they they liked participating in building things–either from a learning perspective, or from the satisfaction they derived by contributing to a greater effort.

We’re open to ideas. We are glad to see that the membership has started growing again, and we invited everyone to become a member and join the conversation about what the future of community fuel making might look like.
Today Ian is driving the homebrew conversation, so if you have a vision about how we might restart homemade fuel making, drop him a note.
